The location, the bright cheerful rooms, and the staff were very pleasant.
Even though we booked over 2 months in advance, there was no record of our reservation with the hotel. We were lucky they had a room when we arrived.
very quiet, clean and private resort. Nice facilities and friendly staff. Large rooms and great pools. Good value for money.
Entrance not well lit at night.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The condo was spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. The property was well maintained.
It required walking if you did not have a rental car since it was far enough out of town that cab drivers were not willing to pick us up. There is a trolley that runs during the day but due to its path it can be time consuming to use.
Very good resort with an excellent service.
Only remark is that the pools are relatively small and the resort is not on the beach
The apartment was surprisingly well equipped, with washing machine, dryer, microwave, and even a torch. The decor was bright and the lanai spacious. We ate breakfast on the lanai each day and never felt overlooked. And lastly, the resort was excellent value for money.
We were travelling with family and friends. A group of 6 adults fit comfortably in the townhouse (2 bedrooms, 1 pull-out bed in the living room). Staff were very helpful -- very responsive to our requests. And the price was very reasonable for the area. I liked the direction of environmentally friendly (including the installation of solar panels and a re-usable bag to use for shopping among other things,). We will look for other Shell Hospitatity facilities in our travels based on experience with the Kohua Resort.
Very pleasant resort, amid nice park, comfortable spacy, clean, well equipped accomodation.
Extremely helpful staff, in both routine and minor emergency situations; they open early (6pm) and stay open late (10pm). They were very prompt in assisting us, whether it was bringing extra towels to our door, or calling the car rental company for us when we had car trouble. Golf carts and drivers were available to shuttle people and luggage to/from parking garage/front desk area and the rooms. Kitchenette allowed us to save significantly on the costs of eating out; it is well-stocked with utensils and small appliances. Washer/dryer inside unit was very handy. High speed internet access in rooms and poolside was great. The numerous pools allowed our children to easily select one that few or no other people were using, so that they would not disturb others. The tennis and pickle ball facilities were extensive. Propane grills were available outside for guests to use. The covered garage was a short walk away, and helped keep our car cool. Accessible trash and recycling bins on the grounds was a plus. Availability of boogie boards and beach mats at front desk was also a plus. Proximity to Keauhou Bay's harbor, a short walk from our hotel, allowed us to walk to our day cruise on the Fair Wind ii. The Keahou Shopping Village Center, which includes a grocery store, restaurants, and a movie theater, is also within walking distance for the able-bodied. Kahaluu Beach Park, well known for good snorkeling, is within reach for avid walkers, and is a short drive (less than 2 miles) north of the resort. La'aloa Beach Park is maybe a mile further north and is a classic sandy beach. The concierge was trying to encourage time share business, but he wasn't pushy, and was very helpful, courteous and knowledgeable regardless. We simply declined to attend the time share discussion, and he continued to be helpful and courteous throughout our stay.
Problems were very minor: We had showers that worked in reverse (hot water setting was cold; cold was hot), which wasn't really a problem once we realized that. A few (grand total of three) unwanted insects and arachnids turn up inside the premises over a week's time, but that was a minor issue, and not a big deal to us. When you have a tropical environment and a ground floor entrance, these things happen. Just don't leave your front door or sliding doors on ground level open for too long.
